Tin Animals of Zimbabwe: Old tin cans and other scraps of metal from business in the industrial areas of Harare are turned in to these delightful sculptures by artists using snips, pliers, and hammers. They depict animals familiar in Zimbabwe, such as this elephant.
These creations are made possible by the Improved Arts Metal Sculpters Project, an organization formed in 1986 by five brothers - Moses, Peter, and Norman Mkankha, Charles Banda, and Emmanuel Homodza. The brothers came from a poor background. Having discovered their artistic talents, they founded the group to depict African natural history through metalwork, and to earn a better living.
